Communications Director

We recruit high-potential candidates to work with some of the best companies, start-ups and agencies in Miami. For this particular role, our client is seeking a communications director to integrate with a collaborative executive team to design and execute, results-driven, multi layered, full-service marketing/branding plans and campaigns for the agency's clients. Design and be responsible for the implementation of targeted, short-term, as well as ongoing institutional public relations/social media efforts for a variety of clients within a broad range of industries. Serve as a lead crisis communications counselor and media training expert, and act as a backup media spokesperson for clients as requested. Lead an internal/external communications team of public relations professionals, writers/editors, translators, and social media specialists to fulfill successful communications efforts with fidelity. Mentor direct reports. Recommend and support business development efforts and write business proposals. Deliver presentations. Maintain positive working relationships with clients, media, and colleagues. Assist with internal agency communications. 

Scope of Work


Responsibilities: 
  • Collaborate with department heads to develop and execute comprehensive marketing plans that include robust communications efforts
  • Work with colleagues across departments to ensure consistent messaging and understanding of clients’ brands, audiences, values, and objectives 
  • Lead and support a communications team in developing and executing cohesive, multi layered, and multi-cultural communications strategies for all clients, including consistent messaging, editorial content development, social media, and public relations efforts  
  • Achieve client communications objectives 
  • Utilize metrics and benchmarks to measure results 
  • Ensure quality control of all information released to clients and the public 
  • Create and supervise the execution of timelines and action plans to drive key communications projects to completion 
  • Serve as editor-in-chief for internal and external communications, including press releases, media advisories, talking points, blogs, newsletters, annual reports, videos, advertising and social media campaigns, business proposals, etc. 
  • Supervise public relations staff and actively engage in cultivating and managing media relationships 
  • Oversee crisis management and preemptive planning for clients  
  • Lead executive-level media training for clients 
  • Drive the development and maintenance of institutional style guides for all clients as requested 
  • Contribute to business development efforts  
  • Deliver dynamic presentations

Requirements: 
  • 10+ years of professional experience in an advertising/communications/PR environment 
  • A BA or Master’s degree in journalism, English, communications or relevant field 
  • Experience in a leadership position managing a staff/department of five or more people 
  • Experience collaborating with a team of executives 
  • Experience hiring and managing freelancers and subcontractors 
  • Experience speaking to media on the record 
  • Demonstrates a keen understanding of branding, messaging, public relations, social media, and the local media market  
  • Is self-motivated to keep up with evolving media trends, tactics, and tools 
  • Is a creative thinker and problem solver 
  • Skilled at storytelling with a proven track record of distilling concepts and communicating them to multiple audiences on a wide variety of platforms 
  • Has excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Experience in crisis communications and media training 
  • Adaptable and open to change 
  • Able to bring big ideas to the team 
  • Cool under fire 
  • A strong multitasker with the ability to clearly prioritize projects and manage staff accordingly
